TITLE:
Speech-Language Pathologist FLSA:
Exempt GENERAL SUMMARY Evaluate speech and language skills and provide speech therapy services for students in preschool through 12th grade that demonstrate significant weaknesses in their communication skills, including but not limited to the areas of articulation, language, fluency, voice, and pragmatics, which negatively impact their academic and/or functional performance at school.
Reports to Building Level Administrator and Director of Special Services.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct speech and language screenings.
Complete speech and language evaluations as appropriate to determine eligibility according to SC state criteria.
Write evaluation reports and individual Education Plans (IEPs), including the development of goals and recommendation of services.
Attend IEP team meetings and other team meetings as required.
Serve as IEP Team Lead for specified students.
Provide speech therapy services to eligible students as specified in their IEPs.
Establish and maintain a therapy schedule that takes into consideration student and staff schedules.
Adhere to compliance timelines for evaluations, reevaluation reviews, and annual reviews.
Complete clinical service notes for all sessions, as well as quarterly progress notes.
Maintain accurate Medicaid documentation.
Work in collaboration with teachers and staff, other service providers, and families.
Provide staff education regarding speech and language disorders, eligibility, and services in the school setting.
Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE An ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate strong abilities in the areas of organization/time management, flexibility, and oral/written communication, as well as a strong knowledge of typical speech and language development and effective treatment strategies for atypical development.
JOB SPECIFICATIONSEducation and
Experience:
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
South Carolina License in Speech-Language Pathology ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (Clinical Fellows are welcome to apply).
South Carolina Educator Certification-Speech-Language Therapist.
Working Conditions:
School environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions.
Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and working with students.
Physical demands are restricted to school activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to ten pounds.
Occasional local travel required.
